blog censorship?

The owner of O-R-A-N-G-E World emailed me about this entry that Pete wrote almost a year ago. We are the proprietors of OW and have found that people, when searching on Australian search engines for our business come across this page referred to above. The comment is rather negative and may be in breach of the law. We ask that you delete that post in order for this situation to be remedied as soon as possible. We thank you for your time and patience and look forward to your response.

Is this censorship or breach of law? Pete didn’t write anything that offensive about his company. In our blogs, we write reviews on places we visit, books we read, movies we watch etc. etc. What if every owner emails us that our negative comments are harmful to their business? Blah.

Nothing directly offensive, more like a description (hey, if it IS a neverending tour of orange orchards, why not be honest about it?). Implication is there, but eh, weak.

People there have something up their asses. And *that\’s* directly offensive. ^_^

Interestingly enough, I just read some sort of digital law passed that stated/republished on weblogs would not be considered libel.

I think it\’s lame that this company is being so aggressive and already saying it is a breach of law. Get a real lawyer to contact about it, or just ask nicely without having to mention.

Also, whatever happened to just posting an opinion? I hope McDonalds doesn\’t sue us because we constantly call it a shitty place to eat at the boards

I agree. Shouldn\’t we all be free to assess everything around us on our own weblogs?

It\’s merely an expression of opinion.

it\’s no breaking of any law. If anythig defamation or libel could be persued, but it would be thrown out. It\’s a democratic right to free speech for gods sake.

And why not start suing every Consumer Reports type thing as well? Geez, I wouldn\’t delete anything a company asked me to, it\’s ridiculous. It\’s not any breach of law. The internet is kind of a hard place to start placing laws on, that was the original intent of it. A form of communication free from any single government enforcement.

hehe this shows my stubbornness. If they hadn\’t have brought a legal threat into it (albeit an empty and unsubstantiated one) i would have been more than happy to change my comments. Now they can get fucked.

It\’s not dishonest. You never said anything libelous, so how could it be breach of law? If you haven\’t written back to them yet, Lauryn, maybe it would help to ask how they consider it \"may be a breach of the law\", and which part is untrue? ;) It is rather negative, but boo-hoo, can\’t expect everyone to love them. :-? IMO, they\’re just making themselves look bad. You know, like fhqwhgads. Like, tryin\’ to play like they know you or something. :fish:

Oh please. Since when is expressing one\’s opinion against the law? Is a blog not a diary in which one can write their own opinions?

I wonder if it\’s a publicity thing - they write this letter, and suddenly their hits go up coz we all go visit their site…? ;-)

they don\’t have a website… its the visitors to an orchard near mildura that they are worried about.
